Poker Quickstart Guide
Objective
Win chips by either:
- Having the best 5-card hand at showdown, or
- Getting all opponents to fold their hands.
Setup
- Players: 2–10
- Deck: Standard 52-card deck
- Chips: Used for betting
- Dealer button: Rotates each hand
Chip Values
White Chip: 1
Blue Chip: 10
Red Chip: 25
Green Chip: 50
Basic Rules
Blinds
- Before cards are dealt, the two players to the left of the dealer post forced bets:
- Small Blind (SB): Player directly left of the dealer posts a small bet
- Big Blind (BB): Next player posts a big bet (minimum double the SB’s bet).
- The dealer button rotates after each hand to the next player, which also rotates the blinds.
The Deal
- Each player is dealt 2 private cards (hole cards).
- Then, 5 community cards are placed face-up in stages:
- Flop: 3 cards
- Turn: 1 card
- River: 1 card
The Betting Rounds
- Pre-Flop: After hole cards are dealt
- Flop: After first 3 community cards
- Turn: After 4th card
- River: After 5th card
Actions You Can Take
- Fold: Discard your hand
- Check: Pass the action (only if no bet yet)
- Bet: Place chips into the pot
- Call: Match a previous bet
- Raise: Increase the bet
