Scale
Scales can be tough of as the rules for what notes belong together.
To apply a scale you first have to choose any note on an octave, this will be the first note played and is called the root note.
Then it is only a matter of applying the scale from your root note:
Name | Rule |
---|---|
Major | Root+2st+2st+1st+2st+2st+2st+1st |
Minor | Root+2st+1st+2st+2st+1st+2st+2st |
st is the abbreviation for semitone
The seven notes from our root note can also be called degrees, and we just number them from one to seven. So if we pick the C Major scale as an example, F would be the 4th degree of the C major scale and A would be the 6th degree of the C major scale.
