Bass
General rules of thumb:
- plays low notes
- is monophonic (one note at a time)
- plays the root note of the chord
Tip
If the sound you chose is too bright, you can either move the notes an octave lower or pitch aka. Transpose it down a couple of semitones.
Sustained
This bass style will continue as long as you hold down the key. So in practise, you programme a single and long note, usually the root not of the chord, for the length of each chord.
This style is used to give the track warmth, without drawing too much attention, and leaving room for the higher elements.
Rolling
This bass style is short and plucky, hitting every 16th note.
Plucked
This bass style is like the rolling bass style, but you only play some notes out. (3/16th note patterns are common)
